Studying abroad in Japan changed my life. When I came back to America I could not even remember who I used to be. I left America pretty close-minded and living in that "bubble" but after meeting people from all over the world my eyes where opened and I no longer just look at life through America's perspective. I am willing to see that there is more to the world then where I am from.

Interesting Course
Program Testimonials
The most interesting course I took while abroad was my Geishas, Gangers and Samurais: Japan in Western Film course. Not only did I love the professor, but the course exposed me to a number of films that I probably would have never picked to watch on my own. I engaged in discussion focused on a wide range of topics, including cultural imperialism, racism, sexism, etc.

Unique Aspect
Program Testimonials
The culture of Japan is amazingly different from America. The focus is not about I but about community. The people are so willing to help you and they are patient with you. This made my transition so much easier. Even though I was a complete foreigner I did not feel unwelcome but instead a genuine interest from the people I interacted with.

Program Testimonials
I learned patience while I was abroad. It's actually a pretty beautiful and essential thing the more I think about it.

Program Testimonials
I realized how big the world really is when I was abroad. I never really thought about it but while there I was hearing about peoples lives not just from Japan but people from All over Europe, Bangladesh, Australia, South America etc. And I got to really understand that peoples lives are so different everywhere. Things I except to be the social norm are different else where. And while I always knew this I do not think I fully grasped that concept until I went abroad. I feel more open and willing to learn about the world.

Why Study Abroad
Program Testimonials
I would tell an Elon student that studying abroad in my specific program is not meant for someone who is not confident in his or herself because it requires risks and courage; despite, in the end, it is all worth it.
