To study abroad is an experience that is full of incredible opportunities, relationships, memories, and hard work. The gratitude I feel for my supportive family and home institution, Elon, is overwhelming. I was fortunate to study abroad in the most beautiful places I have ever been to, South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) located in the Caribbean. It was at the School for Field Studies (SFS) - Center for Marine Resource Studies (CMRS) where I studied. I have to admit, I lost my heart to the island. Never in my life have I felt more at home - I was always happy to be working out on the water, in the classroom, and meeting community folk in my free time. I immersed myself fully into the culture of the island and loved every minute of it. Not only was the community warm and welcoming but so too was the CMRS staff. They taught me to sieze every day with passion and rigor; I learned the true meaning "using elbow grease" for research and waterfront activities. With all of this being said, studying at the SFS further solidified my aspiration to work in the marine science realm of environmental science and it also bridged any gaps/questions I had about working out in the field as a potential career option for the future. As an active person, there's nothing I love more than to be working as a team member, especially in a research team geared towards making a difference in the environment. It is such a rewarding experience to all be working towards the same goals while also having similar 'spark and fire' working in the marine environment. If you love working hard, especially out on the water, and if you absolutely love to learn and experience life for yourself instead of through a textbook, then Turks and Caicos is the place for you!

I was in the water almost every day, doing things to further my understanding of the natural world, where else can you get that?
