Program Description

This program exposes students to general outpatient clinical experience with a focus primarily on orthopedics. Students will work with a physical therapy private practice clinic alongside several PTs and PTAs.

Module V (8 weeks)
DPT 700 Clinical Practicum I
(4 credits)
First 8-week, full-time clinical education requirement integrated into the 3-year DPT curriculum designed to provide the student opportunity to apply knowledge and skills acquired during Year I. Clinical practice settings for DPT 700 (Clinical Practicum I) will be selected so the student meets the outpatient/ambulatory care setting, and musculoskeletal patient diagnoses requirements as defined in the APTA Guide to Physical Therapist Practice.

About the Locations

The primary clinic is located in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI. Therapy Works also has clinics on Tortola and Virgin Gorda (nearby British Virgin Islands), which you may be able to visit.

St. Thomas is a tourist destination with great weather and beautiful beaches. Charlotte Amalie, the capital city of the USVI, is a heavily populated area. Due to risk of crime in the area, students are recommended to travel in groups of at lease two on this GLO experience.

Transportation
Public transportation is available via bus and rental car, depending on where you live on the island. The bus can be slow and unreliable, so you should leave extra time for bus transportation. You may want to rent a car for travel, but keep in mind that cars drive on the left side of the road. A passport is necessary if you wish to travel to the nearby British Virgin Islands.

For cost information for this program, please view the budget sheet.
