Milan Global Experiences 1

About the Location

If you're looking for a slow pace and an "old world" Mediterranean lifestyle, look elsewhere. While Rome is Italy's capital and home for national politics, Milan is indisputably the economic capital and financial center. Like any big city full of busy, hard working people, Milan is not short on fun things to see and do, as well as delicious traditional Italian dining. Use its efficient public transportation to traverse this vast city while exploring its seemingly endless museums and historic churches and cathedrals. Being the business hub of Italy, many conventions, fairs, and trade shows take place in the city throughout the year, so it is a fantastic place for professional networking.
The dynamic city of Milan is fast-paced, full of ideas, money, fashion, food and glamor. If you're seeking an exciting internship that will dive deep into the world of fashion business, tourism, advertising, and sports management, a Global Experiences internship in Italy, more specifically an internship in the capital of Lombardy is what you're looking for. Simply put, Milan is to Italy as New York City is to America. It's the driving force of Italian design, business and finance. Constantly looking towards the future, Milan is where ideas are cultivated, and revolutionary trends are created. In terms of international internship locations, Milan is a great differentiating choice for your resume, as you learn to work in the Italian business culture, develop language skills and make connections in one of the world's great global business cities.

Global Experiences Milan offers three unique opportunities for internships in Milan. The 8-week Milan internship summer program and 12-week Fall/Spring programs are constructed to work within all of our interns' busy schedules. Each provide interns with language training upon arrival, and innovative opportunities for interactive internships. GE Interns in Milan live in centrally located student apartments which offer accessibility to all the excitement the city has to offer.

General Program Dates

Summer 2017: June  - July (8 weeks)

Cost

Costs for study abroad vary program to program and will not be exactly the same as on-campus costs of attendance at Elon.

For cost information for this program, please see the budget sheet.

Scholarships/Travel Grants

GEC Access Scholarships are designed to help provide access for all undergraduate students to participate in an Elon-approved Global Engagement (Study Abroad or Study USA) program. The application for a GEC Access Scholarship is a questionnaire embedded in the outgoing program application--there is no external application. Please see the GEC Access Scholarship brochure for information on eligibility, conditions, and notification.

For additional information on scholarships or other funding for global engagement, see the Financial Planning for Global Study page.

If you qualify for a travel grant through any of the fellows or scholars programs, see the appropriate program director for more information on how to apply the grant to your global engagement program. Visit the Deadlines and Events Calendar for travel grant deadlines.

Housing

A traditional Italian flat (apartment) in Milan. You will have your own single bedroom with bed linens provided (but bring your own towel) while sharing the kitchen and living areas.  Your flatmates may be other interns in the program or students attending classes at your language school from different programs. Each building and apartment is different so the location within the city and building amenities will vary between your place and others' – some apartments may be recently remodeled while others are much older, some are closer to the city center but others are farther out. What we look for in arranging housing is convenient access to public transportation within about an hour commute at a reasonable cost to keep your program affordable.

Applications

Students must complete the online MyElonGlobal application by the published deadline. See the Deadline and Events Calendar for the most up-to-date deadline information. Applications are generally accepted one semester in advance.

Initial approval is granted by Elon, and final acceptance is granted by Global Experiences.

Note: This program has limited capacity. Applications for a given term will no longer be accepted once capacity has been reached.

Orientations

A successful semester and summer abroad is dependent upon adequate preparation. Students will participate in a series of mandatory orientations during the semester prior to studying abroad. These orientations will address issues of academic, cultural, logistical, financial, and personal preparation, as well as health and safety. Failure to participate in the required orientations will result in dismissal from the program. Any financial losses incurred by this dismissal, including program fees and international airfare, are the student's full responsibility.

View the pre-departure orientation schedule for the summer and semester programs.
