Imagine living in paradise for 8-12 weeks while improving your Spanish skills and gaining professional experience in your career field. Make your dreams a reality with one of our full-time internships in Barcelona, Spain this summer, fall, or spring. Home to hundreds of businesses, agencies, and non-profits, Barcelona is an ideal location for anyone who is interested in international business, public relations, NGO’s, law, finance, or tourism.
Located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is famous for its colorful architecture, amazing food, and welcoming people. With its unique characteristics, it is no surprise that Barcelona is consistently ranked as as one of the world’s top 10 tourist destinations. Millions flock to the sandy coasts each year to indulge in the Spanish culture of living life to the fullest.
Furthermore, the aesthetic design of Barcelona is unlike any other city in the world with a blend of mosaics and original creations by famous local visionary architect Antoni Gaudi. Couple that with some of Europe’s most famous beaches, delicious local cuisine, the largest football (soccer) stadium in all of Europe, and a flare for flashy nightlife and celebrations, and you’ll have your hands full trying to see and do everything you set out to see and do during your internship in Barcelona, a vibrant and exciting city.
Grades count toward an Elon GPA.
Global Engagement courses may not be taken on an audit or pass/fail basis, regardless of the host institution's policy.
Costs for study abroad vary program to program and will not be exactly the same as on-campus costs of attendance at Elon.
For cost information for this program, please see the budget sheet.
GEC Access Scholarships are designed to help provide access for all undergraduate students to participate in an Elon-approved Global Engagement (Study Abroad or Study USA) program. The application for a GEC Access Scholarship is a questionnaire embedded in the outgoing program application--there is no external application. Please see the GEC Access Scholarship brochure for information on eligibility, conditions, and notification.
For additional information on scholarships or other funding for global engagement, see the Financial Planning for Global Study page.
If you qualify for a travel grant through any of the fellows or scholars programs, see the appropriate program director for more information on how to apply the grant to your global engagement program. Visit the Deadlines and Events Calendar for travel grant deadlines.
A traditional Spanish flat (apartment) in Barcelona outside of the city center. You will have your own single bedroom with bed linens provided (but bring your own towel) while sharing the kitchen and living areas. Your flatmates may be other interns in the program or other students or young professionals renting a room like you. Each building and apartment is different, so the location within the city and building amenities will vary between your place and others' -- some apartments may be recently remodeled while others are much older, some may be closer to the city center, while others are farther out. What we look for in arranging housing is convenient access to public transportation within about a 45-minute commute at a reasonable cost to keep your program affordable.
Students must complete the online MyElonGlobal application by the published deadline. See the Deadline and Events Calendar for the most up-to-date deadline information. Applications are generally accepted one semester in advance.
Initial approval is granted by Elon, and final acceptance is granted by Global Experiences.
Note: This program has limited capacity. Applications for a given term will no longer be accepted once capacity has been reached.
A successful semester and summer abroad is dependent upon adequate preparation. Students will participate in a series of mandatory orientations during the semester prior to studying abroad. These orientations will address issues of academic, cultural, logistical, financial, and personal preparation, as well as health and safety. Failure to participate in the required orientations will result in dismissal from the program. Any financial losses incurred by this dismissal, including program fees and international airfare, are the student's full responsibility.View the pre-departure orientation schedule for the summer and semester programs.
