About the Location

Georgia Tech-Lorraine is Georgia Tech’s European campus located in historic Metz, France, just 90 minutes from Paris by train and centrally located in Europe near the borders of Luxembourg, Germany, and Belgium. Year-round undergraduate programs foster the flow of new ideas, create new opportunities, and nurture the development of global leadership and innovative thinking in students.

Academics

Undergraduates can study at Georgia Tech-Lorraine during the fall or spring semester. Courses are taught in English by Georgia Tech faculty and no previous background in French language is required. Students can take classes towards their degree while exploring the surrounding area and beyond.

Please note: This program is intended for engineering majors. For a list of courses offered on this program, please click here

Research opportunities are available for engineering students in both the fall and spring semesters.

Points to note about taking courses abroad:

General Program Dates

Fall semester – mid-August to mid-December
Spring semester – early January to early May

Cost

Costs for study abroad vary program to program and will not be exactly the same as on-campus costs of attendance at Elon.

For cost information for this program, please see the budget sheets (coming soon).

Scholarships/Travel Grants

Need-based scholarships are available for Elon semester programs through the GEC.  For additional information on scholarships or other funding for study abroad, see the Funding for Study Abroad page. Students applying to study in France should also visit the CampusFrance website for other funding opportunities.

If you qualify for a travel grant through any of the fellows or scholars programs, see the appropriate program director for more information on how to apply the grant to your study abroad program. Visit the Deadlines and Events Calendar for travel grant deadlines.

Housing

Undergraduate students live in residence halls a short walk away from campus. Most residence halls will offer studio apartments with a full bathroom and a small kitchenette. Students may also have the option of a private room in two-person suites that can be shared with another GTL student, or a French student from a nearby school.

Cookware and linens are provided.

The following are frequently reserved for Georgia Tech-Lorraine students (not all dorms are offered every semester):

Lafayette
ALOES
CROUS
Pythagore

Students can eat lunch and  dinner at the local student cafeteria, CROUS. You'll learn about getting a meal card at the beginning of the semester. There are also several grocery stores nearby for shopping.

Additional Eligibility Notes

-No disciplinary actions on the student’s record
-Undergraduate students must be US citizens or US Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) to apply to Georgia Tech-Lorraine. Students from  universities outside of Georgia Tech on other types of US visas are NOT permitted to apply.

Applications

Students must complete the online Elon University study abroad application by the published deadline.  See the Deadlines page for the most up-to-date deadline information.  Applications are generally accepted one semester in advance.

Georgia Tech's deadlines can be find here

Initial approval is granted by Elon, and final acceptance is granted by Georgia Tech.

Orientations

A successful program abroad is dependent upon adequate preparation. Students will participate in a series of mandatory orientations during the semester prior to studying abroad.  These orientations will address issues of academic, cultural, logistical, financial, and personal preparation, as well as health and safety. Failure to participate in the required orientations will result in dismissal from the program. Any financial losses incurred by this dismissal, including program fees and international airfare, are the student's full responsibility.
